This nonprofit, nonpolitical volunteer women's service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history and securing America's future through better education consists of over 185,000 members in 3,000 chapters across the world. An applicant for membership must be a woman 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution.

There are 21 DAR chapters in the state of Minnesota, including 11 in the Twin Cities Metro area of Minneapolis/St. Paul.
Members are not required to live in the same city, state, or country of the chapter of their choice.
